  Vladimir (195 km. from Moscow) - Vladimir was the capital of Vladimir-Suzdal's principality of the Old Rus in the 12th century. This town is the site of several unique architectural monuments. The most outstanding of these are the Assumption Cathedral, the Cathedral St. Demetrius, the Golden Gate. These monuments are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The 12th century Church of the Intercession on the Nerl, the most marvellous and perfect monument became the symbol of early Russian architecture. Suzdal (230 km. from Moscow) - Suzdal is a wonderful ancient town with fantastic architectural monuments of the past. The architectural style of Suzdal is characterised by sophisticated proportions (the use of "golden section"). One of the latest monuments of the above architectural style, the Church of the Nativity, is located in Suzdal. The Monastery of the Deposition of the Robe is famous with its wonderful Church over the Gates.
